The Cause
Bangalore city's continual skyrocketing growth and expansion has caused an ever-increasing number of human-wildlife conflicts, most ending with the animal being injured, orphaned, abandoned or killed.
About People for Animals
PfA is a nonprofit, humane organization concerned with native habitat intervention, preservation, conservation and rehabilitation. We receive funding primarily through donations and the support of our membership.
All species receive humane care and rehabilitation without bias. Each patient case is a learning laboratory whether it is a cobra or a threatened slender loris. Our goals are to better understand the interactions between mankind, wildlife and their native habitat and to provide information to students, professionals and the public.

Volunteer @ PfA
PfA has a team of over 200 Volunteers and we are continuously looking for new people to assist in a variety of areas. If you are an enthusiastic and dedicated individual who is seeking to gain unique volunteer experience, then volunteering at PfA may be perfect for you! Because PfA provides training to new volunteers, it is not always necessary to have experience that directly relates to the various Volunteer Opportunities. The right attitude and a strong commitment can go a long way!
Please take a minute to read through the Volunteer Opportunities listed below. Although these descriptions outline our existing opportunities, we welcome any suggestions as to how you can help in other areas.
All general volunteer inquiries can be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator who can be reached at the following contact information:
E-mail: volunteers@PfAbangalore.org
Volunteer opportunities:
- Rescue Node - Everyday in PfA, countless animals become involved in situations that require immediate attention. A major chunk of our activity is transporting sick, injured or orphaned wild animals from across Bangalore city and beyond into the onsite hospital at Kengeri. If you are a hands-on animal caretaker, you can sign up to be on call at various places in the city. You will then be contacted to rescue and bring the wild animal to the shelter. Your actual transport charges will be reimbursed.
- Animal Caretaker
- Educational Program If you can arrange for awareness talks in schools/colleges/professional forums etc on issues of urban wildlife then sign on!
- Fundraising You can be an invaluable asset to PfA if you can help raise funds for its daily critical activities. Contact your HR dept (if in a corporate) and ask them to start a aPayroll Giving program.

- Wildlife Foster Care Parent Often, PfA receives orphaned wild baby animals. Due to time and space limitations, PfA cannot take on the immense workload created by the combined needs of these babies. To remedy this, PfA fosters out litters of baby wild animals to families that have the appropriate space and environmental conditions in their home and enough time to support the babies healthy development.
Volunteer Requirements:
- 1 shift each week (morning or afternoon)
- Six month commitment
- at least 18 years of age
There are other area's of volunteering that do not require a shift
but they do require a commitment.

- Indoor and outdoor enclosure cleaning
Your efforts will be rewarded by a heightened awareness and understanding of the natural environment in which you live. You will also meet many other people who share your interests in wildlife and natural history.
It is only through knowledge, understanding and the direct and buffered contact with wild animals that people of all walks of life will value, preserve and protect the environment, animal wildlife, and their native habitat.
